In this age of instantly accessible information, librarians from all nations find they need to be able to navigate varied resources around the globe. Opportunities to learn how to work with foreign libraries, however, are scarce. The Illinois State Library and the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs sought to fill this gap by developing the “Thinking Outside the Borders” project, which brought together U.S. and international librarians at institutes focused on international cooperation and communication.
